The Editorial Department’s role is to support journals by providing them with the information they need for high-quality open access academic publications (Good Editorial and Open Science Practices). For example, it can provide advice on the legal framework for academic journals, and in particular on copyright contracts and Creative Commons licences. It also provides document templates (ethical charter, quality and evaluation criteria, well-structured publications, referencing assistance, etc.).
The University of Poitiers Charter on Good Editorial and Open Science Practices enables journal founders to implement the criteria related to the presentation of their journal (visibility of the publishing entity, editorial policy, distribution licence adopted, etc.); the criteria concerning scientific content (compliance with periodicity, inclusion of original research, production of metadata, etc.); the criteria concerning organisational structure (transparency of governance, limits on directorships, application of gender parity principles, etc.); and the criteria concerning article evaluation procedure (use of double-blind peer review, publication of evaluation procedures, etc.).
The Editorial Department can assist journals in drafting several documents:
- Ethics charter
- Statutes
- Instructions for reviewers
The Editorial Department can assist journal in choosing their Creative Commons license and in drafting documents such as:
- Copyright contract
